Psalm 119 is an incredible Psalm. It depicts the greatness and power of God’s Word if we make it important in our lives. This Psalm challenges us with constant reminders that God’s Word is the answer to our relationship with God, our relationship with people and our growth in general. It is one of the most powerfully instructive passages in Scripture.

A Charge to Mentor |

Mentoring is such a hot topic now days with everyone from business to churches to individuals reading and talking about ways to incorporate this concept in people’s lives.
Someone once said that mentoring can be taught and it can also be caught. While you may want to plan how you will impact the life of someone through mentoring, it is important to realize that you may also mentor without even knowing it. So often women are watching those around them to see how they handle hardship, training, raising children, loving husbands, and growing in their walk with the Lord.

“But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.”
Psalm 71:14
Hope is an interesting word. It is described in the thesaurus as, “to have faith, trust, be optimistic, anticipate, believe, look forward to, and count on.” Looking at it today as I work through the fears, stresses and challenges of a husband without a job and money draining away I know that I have a choice to make. I can either allow my hope to ooze out of my heart and mind and succumb to the fears, stresses and challenges, or I can choose to believe that My God is truly Who He says He is and continue to place my hope in Him.
One of the mistakes that I ...

After the rush, and excitement of the holidays comes the stark reality of everyday life. Having grandchildren and children coming home created an element of the “Waltons” that we all enjoyed.
During the fun and blessing of this time my husband and I were able to put aside some of the strain, stress and futility of job hunting. We truly were able to just enjoy the essence of the season. It was such an encouragement to be reminded of the “reason” for the season and to recognize that God was so in love with us that He chose to send His Son to come and serve humanity.

Last week in HeartLIFE, the Jr. and Sr. High girls went caroling for one of their ministry projects for this year. What a blessing it was for all of us!! We went to the homes of four individuals whom we had chosen to encourage. One had become a widow the year before, one was dealing with cancer, one was recovering from surgery and the last was an elderly couple who had supported the ministry for years.
With each stop the girls piled out of the bus and tromped across the snow to converge on spot in front of each house. As they sang, I watched their faces and then the faces of the people to whom they ministered. Oh my goodness but it caused me to w ...

The day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday and is the day that store owners hope to bring in enough money to make up for the slowness of the year to date. Businesses work hard to be creative and provide all kinds of incentives that will draw the people out early and into their stores.
This year, my children decided that it would be fun to get up during the wee hours of the morning and head out to see what deals could be had. Soooo, at &l ...

Today in church we discussed Psalm 40. I love this Psalm because it so speaks to my heart. When I turned to it, I realized how much I loved it because verses 1-5 were underlined. I first thought about verse 1 and how the Psalmist said he waited patiently for the Lord…..how I do NOT wait patiently!! I am so challenged to wait patiently and I know the Lord is testing me even now.
Why does it take so much to be patient with what the Lord is doing? Why do emotions play on our minds so much when we are working so hard to operate in the Lord? < ...

Passing on a legacy happens whether we plan or not. It is part of the make up of people. Today at 3:08 my second granddaughter was born. Ellie Grace came into this world and will be one of the next generation to hopefully make a difference for Christ. This little bundle of joy was crying every time I talked to Sarah on the phone and I wondered if she was a feisty little thing and if she would stand strong, be a leader, and move forward in making a difference to the world, for the Lord.
Passing on what we know can just happen and does in many cases. Think ...

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!”
Philippians 4:4
Last week was such a blur that I forgot to even do the blog—“tyranny of the urgent” totally took over!! Then, Monday my husband hit his thumb with a hammer and it caused so much pressure and pain he had to have the nail punctured to give him some relief. On Wednesday he called me and told me he was home from the job he was doing trimming out a house, because he had fallen against a rafter and cracked a rib. Having so little going on in the way of work and then to not be able to work was quit ...

Yesterday I was looking through files at work and came across this zipline story. I am going to share it with you because it really emphasizes teamwork which is a core component to the success of ministry. So many people say they want to be a part of a team but as they develop their areas, they tend to fall into the familiar habit patterns that they have always used as individuals, thus losing the team mindset. For example, I am a task oriented person and would tend to just do something myself rather than delegate it to others if I have to train them or wait for them to learn the task. I know that if I do it myself then it will tend to be done the way I want it. However, if I delegate the task I am offering someone else the opportunity to work with me and to develop a skill in leadership ...
